In this 30-minute introduction to yoga, we’ll break down some of the most essential yoga postures (asanas) and sequences (vinyasas) to start improving strength, balance, and flexibility.
We start off with a short breathing warm up, expanding the lungs as we use our breath to bring our attention inward and let go of the outside stressors of daily life. Then we start warming up the body, putting our joints through their starting range of motion and noticing anything that feels like it needs some extra care or attention. We then move into our biggest “work” phase, learning many of the postures that will be most recognizable to yoga “newbies” like downward-facing dog, warriors, and tree pose. We’ll then move to some deeper stretching before we finish with our final relaxation (shivasana).
